Two ways of reappropriation of Karl Polanyi’s work from the social and solidarity economy: social and political regulations
Abstract
The social and solidarity economy (sse) is a paradigm that has been at the center of the debate during the 21st century in Latin America as an alternative to market society and capitalism, which is its theoretical foundations is essential. It is therefore proposed that see has appropriated key concepts from Polanyi, in which two types of regulation can be distinguished: one social and the other political. The former includes the embedding of the economy and process of decommodification, while the latter encompasses reciprocity, redistribution and the household, whose underlying institutional patterns are symmetry, centrality and self-determination respectively. It is emphasized that these behavioral patterns are present in the SSE, which is why a dialogue on the foundations and political self-regulation of these practices and spaces is necessary
