Social representations of gender-based violence in the Faculty of Psychology of the UNC (Argentina)
Abstract
The social representations on gender-based violence of members of the Faculty of Psychology of the National University of Córdoba (UNC) were investigated by means of structural analysis. An empirical study was carried out with 2002 people from the four university groups (students, teachers, graduates and non-teaching staff ), selected by accidental non-probabilistic sampling. The phrase “gender-based violence” was presented, requesting the first three words used to define it. A prototypicality analysis of the social representations was carried out using Iramuteq in order to identify core and peripheral elements. In addition, using Rstudio, the categories that best differentiated the representations of women and men were obtained. The results show that in the overall sample, both the core and the first periphery show socio-structural views on the causes and characteristics of this violence. Likewise, particularities were found in the comparison of the representations of men and women.
